A taste of Tibet
2018
Tibetan lifestyle, culture and Buddhist religion are arguably better preserved outside the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) established by the government of China in 1965 where colonisation and oppression have been particularly strong. Ethno-cultural Tibet extends far beyond the TAR and a number of places are accessible without a special permit. A taste of Tibet is a collection of photographs documenting life in Tibetan towns in the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Gansu. Despite ever-increasing Chinese influence, the towns of Langmusi and Xiahe provide a valuable insight into an endangered culture.
